Letter from the Superintendent
The members of the learning community here at Graettinger-Terril have a great deal to be proud of, and topping the list are the excellent students, the hard-working staff, and the supportive learning community. Students consistently come ready and willing to learn, staff go far above and beyond the expected to provide students with quality, meaningful learning opportunities, and people in the district give much of their free time to support the efforts of the students and staff. It goes without saying that this is exactly what is needed for schools to fulfill their mission of educating children. We have here what every school in the country is looking for, and the most special thing may be that people both realize and treasure it.
As we look toward the future, these positives are the best foundation possible on which to grow. We are able to offer our students a wide array of classes and activities, and we are the right size for every student to take advantage of those opportunities. Our staff actively and aggressively seeks opportunities for professional growth so they can give the students their best each day. Their curriculum work over the last decade is the envy of everyone in the state, especially in light of state and federal mandates. Finances in the district have been well managed through the years, and the Board is committed to continue utilizing the resources available to provide the best education possible for the students. For example, Graettinger-Terril students have access to the very latest in technology, and all classrooms are equipped with the best technology needed to allow teachers to teach in a motivational, interactive manner.
The number one goal of everyone at Graettinger-Terril is to put our students first, so we need to always stay open-minded to opportunities that will help promote their education. But it is clear that the past has provided a foundation for the present, that we are using that foundation to continue to grow in the present, and that everything possible has been done and is being done to ensure a long-term future for Graettinger-Terril CSD.

Letter from our Elementary PrincipalGreetings!I am Chris Myers the Elementary Principal for Graettinger-Terril Elementary and the shared Curriculum Director for Graettinger-Terril and Ruthven-Ayrshire. I have been in education for 30 years. I am also retired from the Iowa Army National Guard after 24 years of service and am a veteran of Afghanistan. I hold a MA as a K-12 Reading Specialist, a MA Certification in Educational Administration and am nearly complete with a MS as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.In my 30 years in education I have taught First Grade for a total of 7 years and taught middle school reading for 8 years and have been an Elementary Principal for 15 years. This is my second year in the Graettinger-Terril School District. The other two places I have worked as a principal were Cedar Rapids and Sac City, Iowa. I have found that I very much prefer the smaller schools.There is a reason that I enjoy the smaller schools. We are able to provide a much more personalized education to our students and work to have great working relationships with parents. The school district of Graettinger-Terril is one of the best that I have had an opportunity to work in. This goes from our school board on down to everyone that works inside our school. The students are some of the best students that I have had a chance to work with as they are polite, appreciative and work very hard to do their best.Our goal in our elementary is to create an environment of learning that has students become true problem solvers and can relate to the subject matter that we teach. We intend to always be providing a curriculum that is both challenging and developmentally appropriate for each child. Our idea is to take a child from where they are at and move them on from there.Our building has two sections from Kindergarten through third and then we have one section each of fourth and fifth. We have numerous associates available to help those students that are having difficulty in understanding concepts and the teachers work extra hard to provide individual time to those that need it. We have both Title One services and Special Education services. Our school also houses a preschool serving four year olds and three year olds on alternating days.If you come to our building, you will find a group of people that are friendly in greeting you and feel grateful and privileged that you allow us to take care of and educate your children. If you have never been in our building before, we encourage you to stop by and take a look. You won’t be disappointed.Sincerely,

The mission of the Graettinger-Terril CSD is to develop competent citizens who will be successful participants in a rapidly changing world. This will be accomplished by providing each student with a challenging, progressive curriculum taught by a dedicated staff in a nurturing environment.
